S.A.V.E. announces new Public Lecture Series

Science Alliance for Valuing the Environment, Inc. (S.A.V.E.) is offering the following free public lectures at the Franciscan Center of Lourdes University, 6832 Convent Blvd., in Sylvania. The lectures are offered on Tuesdays from 7:30 – 9 p.m., are free and open to the public.

Human Ecology of Writing about Toledo with Keith Burris, Columnist with The Blade. Mr. Burris keeps an eye on the city and its environs bringing his readers up close to the people who make a difference. Whether he’s meeting with the new mayor or a 17-year-old soloist with the Toledo Symphony, or having lunch with the area’s most generous philanthropists, Mr. Burris brings to light the latest personalities that make things happen in the region. His columns appear in The Blade each Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Does Hydraulic Fracturing Trigger Earthquakes; Why did Oklahoma Hire a State Seismologist? with Dr. Donald Stierman, Geophysicist at The University of Toledo. Dr. Stierman will discuss the elastic rebound theory, what fracking is and how these various elements lead him to his conclusions.

A Creative Bent While Thru-Hiking the Appalachian Trail with Cheryl McCormick. Having lived in the outdoors continuously for six months, Ms. McCormick will share with the audience the spiritual and natural world on the trail. While on the Appalachian Trail, she used haiku poetry to express much of her experience, trying to pull out her creative side. Ms. McCormick owns and operates her own water garden business, and is a retired respiratory therapist and former Metroparks of Toledo employee.
