(TOLEDO)—Rahab’s Heart is hosting “Rebuilding Dreams in the ’04,” a 5K race and walk to raise awareness of human trafficking, the afternoon of Oct. 10 at Swan Creek Preserve Metropark in Toledo.

All proceeds go to benefit Rahab’s Heart, a nonprofit based in North Toledo that serves as a resource for adult women who have been trafficked or trapped in the street level commercial sex trade. The ’04 represents the last two digits of the 43604 zip code, the poorest in Toledo.

Annually in Ohio, there are more than 2,000 school-age children that are at risk of being forced into human trafficking through exploited labor, domestic servitude or prostitution. Without intervention, statistics show that 77 percent of underage girls who are victims of child sex trafficking will go on to become involved in the adult sex trade.

According to the FBI, Toledo is a significant source city for minors to be sex trafficked. This helped to create the vision for Rahab’s Heart to formulate a holistic approach to provide a safe haven, street outreach and a homelike environment for group sessions to those in need. The environment helps each person discover new choices, find hope and rebuild their dreams. In 2015, Rahab’s Heart was the recipient of an Ohio Liberator’s Award, which honors the dedication and sacrifice of those working toward eliminating human and sex trafficking.

Early registration online or postmarked by Sept. 26 is $16 and guarantees a T-shirt. Registration from Sept. 27 through the day of the race is $20 and a limited number of shirts will be available for late and race day entries. Register online by visiting (search “Rebuilding Dreams;” service fee applies) through Oct. 8 or download a form at and mail entry fees made payable to That Neighborhood Foundation to Maggie Billings, P.O. Box 192, Maumee, OH 43537.

Walk-in registration for the race opens at 2:30 p.m. at the Yager Center, 4100 Airport Highway at Wenz Road (between Eastgate and Byrne) of Swan Creek Preserve Metropark. The race begins at 4 p.m. and the course uses the multipurpose trail and park roads.
