TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo Zoo is social! This past week, the Toledo Zoo launched its first ever blog. The blog can been viewed at and focuses on the more intimate and behind-the-scenes sides of the Zoo. The first post delves into the re-opening of the iconic tunnel under the Anthony Wayne Trail from both an operational aspect and a sharing of generational memories.

“Our goal with this blog is to present the personal connections and stories of the Zoo to our guests in a more in-depth and informal manner than we can achieve through other mediums,” states the Zoo’s senior communication manager, Candice Harrison.

The blog is the most recent addition to the Zoo’s growing social media presence. Recently, the Zoo also started utilizing Periscope and Snapchat as more immediate, visual and interactive ways to connect with Zoo fans all across the world.

The Zoo also has a substantial and growing following on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest. All of the social media apps and programs are cost effective marketing tools the Zoo uses to stay in touch with visitors while also keeping them entertained, educated and up-to-date.

Toledo Zoo executive director, Jeff Sailer, adds: “Our social media presence is a great avenue to advance our mission of inspiring others to join us in caring for animals and conserving the natural world.”
