The Franciscan Center Announces February Events

The Franciscan Center of Lourdes University is pleased to announce its February 2016 slate of events.

Tuesday, February 9
The Red Cross Club of Lourdes University is hosting a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those wishing to give blood are asked to make an appointment by calling 517-920-2070 or register online atwww.redcrossblood.org using the code LOURDES. Donors must present a photo ID at appointment.

Friday, February 12
The Sylvania Franciscan Village is offering the 5th annual Have A Heart Restock Drive to supply hygiene items to five local outreach centers: Bethany House, Claver House, Helping Hands of St. Louis, Our Lady of Lourdes Outreach Soup Kitchen, and Sylvania Area Family Services. The theme is ‘Can you spare a square?’ and the goal is to donate 1,500 rolls of toilet tissue to the outreach centers. The drive runs from February 1-11 with distribution of items occurring on February 12. For more information, call Sr. Janet Doyle, OP, SFV Administrator, at 419-824-3533.

Monday, February 15
Lourdes University is offering prospective students and their families the opportunity to explore campus on President’s Day. The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with check-in starting at 10 a.m. Individuals and their parents can tour campus and Lourdes’ signature apartment-style on-campus housing, meet Lourdes students, share their academic interests with professors and advisors, discuss scholarship opportunities, and meet with coaches. Friday, February 19
The Lourdes University Lifelong Learning program presents “From Canals to Solar Cells: Toledo Connections” with Al Compaan at 10 a.m. Mr. Compaan is Distinguished University Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at The University of Toledo. He will review the infrastructure expansions of Toledo from the early 1800’s that led to the development of modern agriculture, business and industry in our region and in America.

At 11:15 a.m., a Benefits of Bees Hot Topic with “the Honey Man” Tony P. Siebeneck will delve into the hugely important industry of bee keeping. For ticket prices and more information, visitwww.lourdes.edu/lifelong or call 419-824-3707.
