2016 Lourdes Awards Ceremony to Honor Brightest and Best

Philanthropist and Business Leader Jerry Jones to receive the Newman Award

Lourdes University Provost Geoffrey J. Grubb, Ph.D., is pleased to present the 2016 Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent Blvd., in Sylvania. The event is free and open to the public.

The annual Awards Ceremony celebrates the achievements of students in their academic major as well as their work with student organizations, campus ministry and athletics. Dr. Grubb serves as the Master of Ceremonies.

Newman Award
During the ceremony, the Newman Award will be presented to Jerry Jones, President and CEO of Woodlands Consulting Group. The Newman Award is bestowed biannually to a man or woman of national, regional or local renown who is recognized for his/her educational, social, moral or cultural leadership. The award is named in honor of John Henry Newman, a 19th century English Cardinal deeply devoted to the advancement of religion and education.

Jerry Jones
Mr. Jones is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Woodlands Consulting Group, a firm that specializes in strategic planning, change management, marketing strategies, research, venture development and feasibility studies. Prior to founding Woodlands Consulting Group, he served in executive and leadership roles for The Blade, Toledo Scale Corporation and Owens-Illinois.

Having resided in the Toledo area for more than 40 years, Mr. Jones received his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Education degrees from The University of Toledo. For two decades he taught at The University of Toledo Community and Technical College and the University of Findlay.

Mr. Jones is a philanthropist who has given back to the community through his membership on several boards. The organizations he has supported include the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America and the United Way of Greater Toledo. Currently, he serves as an advisory council member for the Toledo Mud Hens; as secretary of the Lucas County Improvement Corporation; and as a board member of the City of Toledo Convention and Visitors Bureau. A stalwart supporter of Lourdes University, Mr. Jones contributes to student scholarships and is a valuable member of the President’s Advisory Council.
