On Thursday, October 12, the Red Cross Club of Lourdes University will host its 4th annual blood drive in honor of alumnus Tim Berta. The blood drive takes place in the Franciscan Center from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lourdes’ Red Cross Club was established in 2014 by social work alumna and then student Megan Mosiniak. Fellow social work major Margaret Janiga is coordinating this year’s blood drives for the second year. A native of East Aurora, NY, Margaret also plays for the Gray Wolves lacrosse team as a goal keeper.

Tim Berta
Tim Berta is a former assistant baseball coach at Lourdes University. In 2007, while a member of the Bluffton University baseball team, he survived a bus crash that killed five student-athletes. Tim was severely and permanently injured in the crash and received blood products that saved his life. When faced with near impossible odds and challenges, he finished his undergraduate work in biology at Bluffton and finished his Master of Organizational Leadership degree at Lourdes University in May 2015. He has inspired hundreds in the Lourdes community and throughout the United States.

Each year, thousands of student leaders across the country organize American Red Cross blood drives at their schools. “Now more than ever, it is important to be involved in this worthy effort,” says Margaret.

Those wishing to give blood at Lourdes University on Thursday, October 12 are asked to make an appointment by calling 716-374-0442. Individuals can also register online at www.redcrossblood.org using the code LOURDES. Donors must present a photo ID at appointment.

The Red Cross Club of Lourdes University will also hold blood drives on Tuesday, February 6, and Thursday, April 12, 2018.

About Red Cross
Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the Red Cross has been the nation’s premier emergency response organization. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money and blood to do its work. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. Today, the Red Cross provides approximately 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply, more than any other blood bank. As a national provider, the Red Cross has a unique responsibility to help ensure hospital patients throughout the U.S. have blood when they need it. For more information visit www.redcrossblood.org.
