Not only will Air Force fighter jet mechanic and UT alumni Tom Burden reap the benefits of a recent appearance on ABC TV’s “Shark Tank,” but he’ll also be honored at the famous Tony Packo’s® restaurant with a signed bun hanging on their wall of fame.

The signing will take place at 1pm on Thursday, November 16th at Packo’s at the Park downtown. The public and press are invited to witness the event.

Entrepreneur Burden developed Grypmat, “the World’s Most Versatile Tool Mat,” while working as a mechanic for the 180th Fighter Wing at the Air National Guard base in Swanton and walked away from his November 12th swim on “Shark Tank” with a deal to develop and market his invention further. Burden describes Grypmat as a “high-performance, flexible, non-magnetic, non-slip, chemical resistant, anti-static, rubber tool mat” and a “mechanic’s Best Friend.”

Packo’s has recently focused on Toledo and surrounding area-related personalities to bolster their signed hot dog bun collection in their 85th anniversary year. Recent signers include actress Katie Holmes, Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson, University of Toledo President Susan Gaber, Mud Hens president and General Manager Joe Napoli, Dana President and CEO James Kamsickas, ProMedica President and CEO Randy Oostra, professional football quarterbacks Bruce Gradkowski and DeShone Kizer, and TPS superintendent Dr. Romules Durant.

Tony Packo’s opened in 1932 and currently operates four locations in the Greater Toledo area. The eatery also announced the future opening of a new store in the Maumee area by the end of the year. Actor Burt Reynolds was the first celebrity to sign a bun for the restaurant in 1972.
