Central Catholic athletic director Greg Dempsey will kick off the 2018 bun signing season at Toledo’s most famous eatery

Coach Dempsey arrives at the Original Tony Packo’s® on Front St. at 1pm on Tuesday, January 30 to autograph one of the restaurant’s iconic celebrity hot dog buns. The press and public are invited to join Packo’s in welcoming the Toledo native for the event.

Dempsey served as head coach at Central Catholic beginning in 2000, and was promoted to athletic director in July of 2017. With multiple state championships for the school under his belt, he ranks as one of the most successful high school sports coaches in the city. Dempsey also served as Central Catholic’s interim president for the 2016-2017 school year.

During Packo’s celebration of their eight-fifth anniversary in 2017, the world-famous restaurant collected several local celebrity-signed buns for their walls. Signers include actress Katie Holmes, Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson, University of Toledo President Susan Gaber, Mud Hens president and General Manager Joe Napoli, Dana President and CEO James Kamsickas, ProMedica President and CEO Randy Oostra, professional football quarterbacks Bruce Gradkowski and DeShone Kizer, and TPS superintendent Dr. Romules Durant.

Tony Packo’s opened in 1932 and currently operates five locations in the Greater Toledo area, the newest in Maumee on Conant in front of Meijer. Actor Burt Reynolds was the first celebrity to sign a bun for the restaurant in 1972.
