As part of a major renovation to their Waterville Store, The Kroger Co. approached The Arts Commission in the fall of 2017 to help coordinate a large mural commission for the vestibule of the store. Bowling Green artist, Gail Christofferson was selected for the commission and created an 8’x20’ mosaic that depicts Waterville’s landmarks and scenic views.

The large, colorful installation mural welcomes shoppers in the vestibule and represents the spirit of the Waterville Community. Entitled Life Abundant, the mosaic is a fun, whimsical, and stylized depiction of Waterville, its neighborhoods and surrounding area. This mural has been designed in collaboration with Debra Buchanan, a local Toledo fine artist.

Kroger debuted their new Waterville Marketplace store located at 8730 Waterville-Swanton Rd on January 31 with a grand-opening and open house. This mural joins a larger collection of murals in Kroger stores. Kroger has worked with nearly 30 arts organizations throughout the country to commission about 100 local artists to create original pieces of artwork for their stores as a way of connecting to the community.
