TOLEDO, OH – The Links, Incorporated has partnered with Toledo School for the Arts to host their area poster contest to choose a student work for submission in the National Poster Art Competition.

Beginning in 1995, The Links, Incorporated’s National Walk-A-Thon has been hosting the National Poster Art Competition in an effort to spread awareness of health-related issues. This year’s theme is Our Vision, Our Future: Healthy and Happy Communities promoting healthy and happy communities, this may include but is not limited to, healthy and clean environments, a bully-free world or an inclusive and diverse society.

Students from two different classrooms participated in this competition. One science class including 7th to 9th grades focused on the environment and how students could use art to promote a healthy and happy environment for animals and people. A 10th to 12th-grade business teacher used the concept of money and finances to inspire student’s artwork.

Three local artists were brought in to judge the area contest at TSA and decide which works would move on to the national competition. The national competition will be held completely online. Photographs of the winning pieces are uploaded online and voting will be open April 1 to April 15, with national judging conducted in May. The national winners will be announced in June and winner’s artwork will be displayed at the 41st National Assembly in Indianapolis, Indiana from June 27 to July 1.

The area winners from TSA are Jazlyn Hudson (7th) with the work “Butterflies Change, So Can We” and Vincent Mugavero (12th) with the work “A Model For Others.”

A reception will be held in the Porter Gallery on May 17 from 6-9pm during the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo Art Loop and winner’s artworks will stay on display through May 21.
