TOLEDO, OH — The Toledo SymphonyLabTM is an award-winning radio podcast series from WGTE Public Media that collaborates with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) to provide a weekly half-hour behind-the-scenes look at the world of classical music. On October 25, 2018, the Toledo SymphonyLabTM was awarded the Touchstone Award in the broadcasting excellence category from the Press Club of Toledo for its episode on Gustav Holst’s The Planets. The episode featured famed Toledo astrologer Janet Amid who gave an analysis of the work.

“Toledo SymphonyLabTM celebrates everything TSO has to offer in the way of cultural enrichment for our community and beyond,” says Brad Cresswell, WGTE Radio Program Manager and Music Director. “It’s an honor to be able to tell the remarkable stories behind the music and to receive recognition for doing so, alongside some of the best journalists in our city. This award validates in part the pride we take in the close partnership between TSO and WGTE, and is a harbinger of even greater things to come.”

Every week on Wednesdays at 3:30 PM, host Brad Cresswell and TSO panelists Zak Vassar (TSO President & CEO), Merwin Siu (TSO Artistic Administrator), and Felecia Kanney (TSO Director of Marketing) explore a theme inspired by a concert or other events from the Symphony’s season. With lively discussion, quizzes, and even audio “re-enactments” of historical events, Toledo SymphonyLabTM seeks to bring a pop culture aesthetic to the storied world of classical music. In addition to the TSO panelists, the program often features special appearances by guest soloists, members of the TSO, and TSO Music Director Alain Trudel.

“Working with Brad Cresswell and the entire team at WGTE is truly a pleasure, and appearing on Toledo SymphonyLabTM is one of the highlights of our week,” says Merwin. “We love that the WGTE listening public can get to know the wonderful personalities of our TSO musicians and special guests, and to hear the unique, behind-the-scenes perspectives that help the music come to life.” The next episode of the Toledo SymphonyLabTM will air on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 3:30 PM.
