High-velocity jets create a fiery tsunami wave that reaches 100,000 kilometers high with rising loops of electrified gas. What’s driving these strange phenomena? How will they affect planet Earth? Learn the answers at the Appold Planetarium’s Solar Superstorms show and enjoy the dazzling magic of the aurora borealis, or Northern lights.

Explore the tangle of magnetic fields and superhot plasma that vent the Sun’s rage in dramatic flares, violent solar tornadoes, and the largest eruptions in the solar system – coronal mass ejections. Narrated by actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Solar Superstorms features one of the most intensive efforts ever made to visualize the inner workings of the Sun.

Reservations are strongly recommended. Please call 419-517-8897 or email planetarium@lourdes.edu.

Prior to Solar Superstorms, enjoy a selection of music courtesy of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra as part of a collaboration with the Appold Planetarium.
