Maumee Valley Country Day School Announces New Head of Upper School

MVCDS announces the appointment of Dr. Molly Macek as Head of Upper School, effective July 1, 2019. Dr. Macek comes to Maumee Valley from Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, MD, where she has spent the past fourteen years as a science teacher, department chair, and the Director of the Upper-Level STEAM Program. Regarded as a passionate and highly collaborative instructional leader, Dr. Macek brings a diverse array of independent school teaching and administrative experience.
Dr. Macek is looking forward to taking on this new role, stating: “I am thrilled to be joining the Maumee Valley community! From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I felt inspired by the community’s commitment to providing its students with an exceptional learning environment. With faculty, parents, and students who are dedicated to innovation, inclusivity, and experiential learning, Maumee Valley provides the ideal setting for me to continue my career in educational leadership.”

Dr. Macek earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Georgetown University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Macek most recently received her Doctor of Education with a specialization in 21st Century Education from Johns Hopkins University, where she completed her dissertation titled The Challenge of Change: Implementing Critical Thinking Instruction in the Culture of Independent, Private Schools. Before teaching, Dr. Macek worked at Johns Hopkins University in the Department of Neurology in Baltimore, MD and the Gillette Company in the Department of Microbiology in Boston, MA.

A native Michigander, Dr. Macek is looking forward to returning to the Midwest. Molly and her husband, Mark Macek, a federal attorney who enjoys playing hockey in his spare time, have two sons, Michael (11) and Andrew (7). “My family and I appreciate the warm welcome we have received thus far and the opportunity to be a part of the Maumee Valley community. I look forward to joining the Maumee Valley team in advancing the school’s mission of academic excellence, personal attention, experiential learning, and global education.”

Maumee Valley Country Day School is pleased to welcome Dr. Macek and her family to the Toledo community.
