Equality Toledo Welcomes Interim Director

Equality Toledo (ET) welcomes former Executive Director, Nick Komives, as its new interim executive director, after ET’s Board of Governors accepted the resignation of current director, Analese Alvarez, at their March meeting.

“We are very proud of Analese and her numerous accomplishments over the course of her tenure,” said Claire Cahoon, ET board president.

Since joining ET in March of 2018, Alvarez helped lead the implementation of the organization’s no barriers pantry within Collingwood Presbyterian Church, developed new Pride Week community events and, in the strive for more unity, began a coalition for local LGBTQ+ nonprofits that now meets quarterly. This was all in addition to facilitating countless collaborative meetings and LGBTQ+ Ally Trainings for the region’s corporate and school sectors.

“In an effort to smooth this transition of leadership, we are very happy to welcome our former Executive Director, Nick Komives, who worked in this role four prior to Analese,” said Cahoon.

Komives currently serves as a Toledo City Councilmember at large. He brings 13 years of community organizing and nonprofit experience to ET.

“It’s great to be back with Equality Toledo again. I am happy to provide temporary assistance and help facilitate the organization’s wonderful community work,” said Komives.

Alvarez, a doctoral candidate at The University of Toledo, plans to finish her degree and move back to her home state of California to work as a school administrator.

“I am very pleased with my work at Equality Toledo, and all the great things we’ve accomplished as a board and community. With Nick as interim executive director and our dynamic board – the organization is in great hands,” said Alvarez.

A date has not been determined in naming a permanent Executive Director. ET’s Board plans to begin this conversation in-depth in the fall after concluding a busy summer-season of events.
