Possessing three decades of experience as an executive in healthcare, Dr. Randy Oostra is regarded as one of the nation’s top leaders. He joined ProMedica in 1997 as a vice president and was promoted to successive executive positions. In 2009, Dr. Oostra was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the not-for-profit mission-based, integrated health and well-being organization. Headquartered in Toledo, ProMedica serves communities in 28 states and has more than 56,000 employees serving at the organization’s 13 hospitals, nearly 400 senior care facilities and its medical and dental insurance companies.

Under his leadership, ProMedica has received numerous national recognitions for its quality, safety, and patient experience. The organization’s flagship Toledo Hospital received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is recognized as one of the nation’s 50 best hospitals by Healthgrades. All ProMedica wholly owned, qualifying hospitals have received ratings of 3 stars and above from CMS.

While leading an organization dedicated to clinical excellence, Dr. Oostra is recognized as a national thought leader who challenges the status quote in health care, especially as it relates to healthy aging and social determinants of health. He and his team work diligently to advance a national conversation about the need for health systems to take a broader view to health care, addressing the socioeconomic and environmental factors that significantly impact health outcomes, including education, job status, food insecurity, and housing.

A former Lourdes University board of trustee, Dr. Oostra is a visionary leader who truly believes community and service go hand in hand. His strong commitment to the healthcare industry and community is exemplified through his involvement in several professional and civic organizations. He currently serves on the board of trustees for the Ohio Hospital Association, Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo Symphony (past chair), ConnecToledo Downtown Development Corporation (past chair) and The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).

Named one of Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare and one of Becker’s Healthcare’s 100 Great Leaders to Know in Healthcare, he holds a Doctorate in Management from Case Western Reserve University, a Master of Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Science in Management from the University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Northwestern College.
