Lourdes University’s Lifelong Learning program hosts its Fall Kickoff: A Discussion of Current Affairs with Special Guest Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Thursday, August 29 in the Franciscan Center 6832 Convent Blvd., in Sylvania. Presentation at 11:00am; Lunch served at 12:00pm. Presentation is free; lunch $12 per person. Reservations requested by August 20. Call (419) 824-3707 or email lifelong@lourdes.edu.

Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur is currently serving her 19th term in the House of Representatives, making her the longest-serving woman in the United States Congress. A Toledo native, Congresswoman Kaptur is a graduate of St. Ursula Academy and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Wisconsin. She also earned a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan. Congresswoman Kaptur’s political career began when she accepted an appointment as domestic policy advisor to President Jimmy Carter.

Today Congresswoman Kaptur serves as the first woman to Chair the Influential House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development. She also serves as a senior member of the House of Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense and the House of Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science.

Lifelong Learning Program
Lifelong Learning is an educational program at Lourdes University, open to all men and women interested in continued learning. Participants enjoy classes in a variety of subjects, educational day trips, monthly lectures, and hot topics that explore current events and include lunch with lively discussion. Members enjoy a community of inquisitive people, free admission to monthly lectures, and discounts on classes, trips and events.
