Actors Collaborative Toledo presents a staged reading of Escaped Alone by Caryl Churchill with Toledo theatre veterans Barbara Barkan, Carol Ann Erford, Jean Mills and Brenda Sweeney at Trinity Episcopal Church (316 Adams St. 43604). The show is directed by ACT co-founder Jeffrey Albright.

Escaped Alone is the latest play by one of Britain’s greatest living playwrights. It begins with one of the characters addressing the audience, “I’m walking down the street and there’s a door in the fence open and inside there are three women I’ve seen before… so I go in.”

Three old friends and a neighbor spend a series of summer afternoons in the backyard chatting while visions of apocalyptic horror play out inside their minds. Tea and catastrophe. Are the events described a memory, a vision or a metaphor for growing old as a woman? That is left for the audience to decide.

Caryl Churchill’s magnificent and wickedly funny new play unleashes an intricate, elliptical, acutely female view of the apocalypse.

Show times for Escaped Alone are September 28, 2019 at 8 p.m. and September 29, 2019 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance at www.act419.org and $12 at the door beginning one hour before the curtain.
