Lourdes University’s Appold Planetarium, the Toledo Astronomical Association, and Imagination Station are thrilled to offer a viewing of a unique event: the transit of Mercury, Monday, November 11 at Lourdes University, 6832 Convent Blvd. Sylvania, OH. Solar telescopes will be set up between 8:00am and 1:30pm outside Russell Ebeid Hall. In addition to catching Mercury crossing the face of the Sun, the planets Venus and Jupiter will also be visible through telescopes. Visit the Appold Planetarium at 10:30am and 12:00pm for free planetarium shows about the Sun. Imagination Station will have a hands-on activity focused on sunlight.

The planet Mercury will cross the face of the Sun, a phenomenon known as a transit. Transits help astronomers discover and characterize exoplanets orbiting the distant stars. There are approximately 13 transits of Mercury per century and the next one happens in the year 2032. Don’t miss the transit of Mercury on November 11!

The entire event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Laura Megeath, Appold Planetarium Coordinator, at 419-517-8897 or planetarium@lourdes.edu.
