In celebration of Veterans Day, Way Public Library is pleased to announce the opening of the 4th Biennial Veterans Art Show of Northwest Ohio. Heart and Soul: A Veteran’s Vision will be on display in the lower level gallery from November 9, 2019 through January 4, 2020 during regular library hours. A commemorative program, book signing, and artist reception will take place on Sunday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m.

Heart and Soul is very special because it showcases the talents of our veterans. These men and women have served our country with honor and sacrifice, insuring our freedoms as a nation. This exhibit is a venue for their artistic expression in the visual and literary arts.

The opening program will be hosted by Veterans Art Show founder and organizer David Ridenour. Mr. Ridenour, a Vietnam veteran, served on the Wood County Veterans Services Commission for 23 years and was twice president of the Ohio State Association of Veterans Services Commissioners. He is active in the American Legion, American Legion Buckeye Boys State, VFW, DAV, and Vietnam Veterans of America. As a tireless and passionate advocate for those who have worn the uniform, he organized the first ever Veterans Art Show of Northwest Ohio in 2013 to display the talent and patriotism of local veterans.

The festivities will begin with a selection of patriotic music in the gallery. From 1:15-2:00 p.m., the all-female a cappella ensemble Sweet Harmony will entertain with their renditions of favorite patriotic tunes.

The program will include remarks by local dignitaries including Ohio State Senator Theresa Gavarone and Ohio State Representative Haraz Ghanbari. Women’s Army Corps (WAC) veteran Wanda Murrell will sing the national anthem.

Special addresses will be made by guest speakers Heather Seymour and Warren E. Hunt.

Heather Seymour, MSW, LISW, founded and continues to develop the Veterans Arts Initiative (VAI) at the Columbus VA Chalmers P. Wylie Veterans Outpatient Clinic. The Initiative brings together veterans and their families for meaningful programs in the hopes of fostering real connections that could lead to utilization of valuable VA services.

Warren E. Hunt is a Toledo native and United States Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War and later in the Ohio Army National Guard. He will discuss his book Reflections on the Vietnam War: A Fifty-Year Journey. Books will be available for purchase and signing after the ceremony.

Included in the art exhibition are original pieces of visual and literary art by retired military personnel and select pieces to honor veterans who have served our country.

Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the program while attendees have the opportunity to enjoy the art and memorabilia exhibit. Admission is free and open to the public.

The 4th Biennial Veterans Art Show and commemorative program are sponsored by Way Public Library Foundation & Friends. For more information, please visit waylibrary.info or call 419-874-3135.
