Kinship Navigator Program Receives National Aging Achievement Award

The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (N4A) honored the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc.’s Kinship Navigator Program with the 2007 Aging Achievement Award for its achievement in improving the lives of older adults and caregivers. Mrs. Billie Johnson, Executive Director of the Area Office on Aging, received this award in the caregiving category at N4A’s 32nd Annual Conference in San Francisco on August 1, 2007. The N4A Aging Achievement Award recognizes unique and creative programs that meet the needs of older Americans and serve as models of excellence for Area Agencies on Aging.

The Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio\\\'s Kinship Navigator program guides grandparents and other relatives who are raising their relatives’ children to services available through dozens of community agencies. Services available include:

• Financial assistance, regardless of income
• Health care coverage, regardless of income
• Legal assistance
• Education on managing a child\\\'s anger, behavior, alcohol and drug problems
• Various services from the schools
• Child care
• Food and clothing resources
• Recreational activities
• Four Kinship Clubs - Informational and enrichment programs
