SUNSHINE INC. BOARD NAMES ELIZABETH “BETTY” HOLLAND
AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AFTER NATIONWIDE SEARCH

The Sunshine, Inc. of Northwest Ohio Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth “Betty” Holland as the organization’s new executive director. Holland will begin her new position on August 20, 2007.

Holland succeeds John Martin, who resigned in January of this year to accept the position of director of the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.

Holland is currently the director of program operations at Grafton School, a $43M provider of services to clients and residents with complex disabilities and significant behavioral problems. Headquartered in Winchester, Virginia, 70 miles northwest of Washington D.C., Grafton’s 900 employees annually serve over 1,500 persons across Virginia and Maryland.

During Holland’s 24-year tenure at Grafton, she’s taken on broad responsibilities including financial management, new program development, quality improvement, and staff development and mentoring.

A native of Michigan, Holland holds Master’s and Doctoral degrees in psychology from Kansas State University and a graduate degree in educational leadership from George Washington University.

Julie Higgins, president of the Sunshine Board of Directors, says that the board was drawn to Holland’s education, experience and commitment to Sunshine’s mission and service values. “Betty brings an excellent combination of leadership skills, vision for the organization and passion for the ministry of Sunshine Inc.,” Higgins said.

Her appointment was approved by MHS Alliance, the agency that oversees the operation of Sunshine as a health and human services provider affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA.

“The Board would like to thank Margaret Kaya, interim executive director, and our staff, clients families and other important constituents for their hard work and support during this time of leadership transition.” Higgins said. “We know that everyone in the Sunshine family will join us in welcoming Betty Holland as our new executive director.”

Sunshine Inc. of Northwest Ohio is a Mennonite-affiliated non-profit agency providing residential and related services to people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities and their families.
