ACT Against Violence: Parents Raising Safe Kids Program

The University of Toledo College of Medicine, Health Science Campus, recently has been identified as the site of the ACT Against Violence Regional Center. ACT was developed by the American Psychological Association with the goal of educating parents, educators and other professionals involved in young children’s about family violence prevention. Through ACT, adults involved in the lives of children ages birth to 8 years are trained in violence prevention. The program, directed by Dr. Michele Knox, University of Toledo Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychiatry, is designed to increase parents’ knowledge and use of effective, nonviolent child rearing practices, decrease child maltreatment, and decrease aggressive behavior in children. Two other ACT Against Violence Regional Centers in the United States include one in Chicago and one in Miami.

The Center, in cooperation with the American Psychological Association, is hosting a two day workshop for professionals in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and surrounding areas:
