Ohio Energy Advisor to Give Koltay Lecture
Dr. Mark R. Shanahan, executive director of the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority's Clean Air Resource Center, will address the MVCDS community at the 2008 Koltay Lecture on Friday, Feb. 22. Appointed in 1989, Shanahan oversees the management of more than $1.6 billion in outstanding bond issues as well as the Authority’s research and special project programs.
He is also Ohio Governor Ted Strickland's Energy Advisor. In that role, he is responsible for coordinating state agencies’ efforts to develop a comprehensive Ohio energy policy and to implement the Governor’s order to significantly reduce state agency energy consumption.
The Koltay Lecture Series was established in 1989 to honor the memory of former MVCDS teacher, coach and Middle School Head Laszlo Koltay. Laz brought the perspective of one familiar with Europe, Asia and North America to his classes, his coaching and his interactions with all members of the community. It is the goal of the Lecture Series to expose students and faculty to his fervor and international perspective.
Shanahan's address, "Electricity, Old and New: Why Does It Matter?", will be at 9:05 a.m. in the Millennium Theatre. Maumee Valley is located at 1715 S. Reynolds Road in Toledo.
