Geneology Workshops at Main Library

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library’s Local History and Genealogy Department is helping Toledo residents find out their ancestry.

In two free Saturday morning workshops titled Beginning Genealogy, participants can come to the McMaster Center at Main Library, 325 Michigan St., and join Local History staff members Donna Christian and Irene Martin, and learn how to research their genealogy.

The first workshop, on April 26, will begin its 9:30 a.m. session with an overview of genealogy. Participants will learn the basics of genealogy, including what information is necessary to get started and where to find that information.

The workshop’s second session, beginning at 10:30 a.m., will teach participants about using census records and how they are useful in genealogical searches.

The second genealogy workshop will begin on May 10 at 9:30 a.m., with a look into the resources the Library’s Local History and Genealogy Department has and how they can help in your research.

The workshops will close with a 10:30 a.m. session exploring what resources the Internet has to offer, how to find those resources and how to use them.

Following the workshops, participants can spend time researching in the Local History and Genealogy Department and testing their new skills.

These programs are free and open to the public. Parking is also free for workshop participants. Those interested can attend just one or both sessions. Registration is requested.
