Owens Community College Alumni Association – Backpack to the Future
The Owens Community College Alumni Association is sponsoring a community service project called Backpack to the Future. Last year, through the generosity of our students, faculty, staff, community donors and alumni, we collected 300 backpacks and over 4,200 school supply items that were donated to students at nine Toledo-area elementary schools.
Building on this success, we are now collecting backpacks (gently-used or new) and school supplies (crayons, markers, glue, colored pencils, #2 pencils, school boxes, pocket folders, marbled-covered composition books) that will be given to upcoming kindergarten-age students who need assistance in obtaining the needed supplies. We are asking for your help to achieve the goal of ensuring that all children start out their school year with the basic materials. Please help young students start off on the right foot that will add to their long-term achievement.
There are various drop-off locations at Owens Community College-a complete list is on our website. Also, from July 18 through August 18, supplies can also be dropped off at Books-A-Million (located at 2105 Levis Commons Blvd.) and the 3 Great Lakes Credit Union branches (5823 Monroe in Sylvania, 624 W. South Boundary in Perrysburg, or the OI-Plaza, 1890 N. Wilkenson Way, Perrysburg).
Or, if you would prefer to give a monetary donation, please make your check payable to Owens Alumni Association and mail to Owens Community College Alumni Relations, P.O. Box 10,000, Toledo, OH 43699-1947. On-line donations are also accepted. You can visit www.owens.edu/alumni and click on the Backpack to the Future link. We will use all dollars collected to purchase the much-needed supplies.
