Museums Celebrate During Winesburg Weekend in Clyde
During Winesburg Weekend, visitors may stop at the Clyde Museum on West Buckeye Street downtown and the McPherson House at the corner of U.S. 20 and Ohio 101.
Both will be open 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7. There is no cost to visit either museum.
At the Clyde Museum, visitors will be treated to age-old organ hymns and photographs from decades gone by.
Museum curator Brenda Stultz said the doors at both community museums will be open 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The theme for the Clyde Museum’s weekend event is “What Child is This”. “We’ll be featuring Christmas hymns,” she added, about volunteers performing on a restored organ. Playing will be Martha Rogers, Juanita Burr, and twins Marolyn Moyer and Carolyn Ott.
The other main holiday hymn being featured will be “Deck the Halls”. There will be photograph collages from the recently donated photographs from the Frank and Lois Hall collection. Many of the photographs owned by the Halls came from the Elliott Studio.
Families also will be welcome to take photographs in the museum’s antique one-horse sleigh and the antique Clyde fire truck, both on display.
Stultz also plans to create a display of antique baby clothes and present a toy collection from collector Mary Jane Dawes, who owns the Calico Cat antiques store on South Main Street. The rest of the museum will also be open to tour.
At the McPherson House, visitors will see the restored childhood home of General James Birdseye McPherson, the highest ranking Union officer killed in the Civil War.
The farm home is celebrating a theme of “Homespun Holidays” and is decorated in an 1850s style. It will host the author of the recent McPherson biography, Tom Waltsmith, at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Local wool crafter Nelcy Elder will be at the home running a spinning wheel.
This year Kathy Alter of Elmore also will be playing a harp at the home from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7.
