Posted: Friday, January 9, 2009 by: Scott Carpenter | Category: Community Interest

Metroparks is now recruiting people to join the ranks of the Volunteer Trail Patrol, who provide customer service and safety assistance to park visitors throughout the park system.

More than 100 Trail Patrol Volunteers already patrol the parks on foot or bicycle to share their knowledge of the Metroparks with others, distribute helpful information and report to park rangers and maintenance staff as needed. At Oak Openings Preserve, volunteers also patrol the horse trails.

Four informational meeting have been scheduled for anyone interested in learning more about the unique volunteer opportunity.

Wednesday, January 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ward Pavilion in Wildwood Preserve, Sylvania Township.

Sunday, January 18, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Yager Center in Swan Creek Preserve, Toledo.

Wednesday, January 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Packer-Hammersmith Center in Pearson, Oregon.

Sunday, February 1, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lamb Center in Side Cut, Maumee.

A new class of Trail Patrol volunteers will begin roaming the trails in May at these and other parks. Applications are being taken in January and February, and training will begin in March.

Trail Patrol volunteers receive training in visitor assistance, park rules, first aid and CPR.
