Sunshine Quilts on Display at Quilt Foundry in February
Quilt lovers will be able to take a sneak peek at some of the finest examples of regional quilt making during a special display of quilts at the Quilt Foundry, 234 West Wayne Street, Maumee, during the month of February. Starting today through Saturday, February 28, six quilts made for the benefit of Sunshine Inc. and Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) will be on display at the shop.
Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The exhibit will feature quilts donated to the Black Swamp Benefit Bazaar and quilt auction from noted Maumee quilter Anne Tompkins, artist Carolyn Rich who worked with a group of quilters from Bluffton, Ohio and a friend of Sunshine. The quilts reflect the traditional Mennonite quilt making techniques featured in the Black Swamp benefit auction as well as modern machine quilting. The feature quilt, “Black Swamp Wheels,” designed by Rich, was inspired by the many modes of transportation the artist noted when attending her first Black Swamp Benefit Bazaar. The circular shapes represent the wheelchairs, wagon wheels, buggy wheels and motorcycle wheels she saw at the event.
All the quilts on display will be auctioned on Saturday, June 20, 2009 as part of the 8th Annual Black Swamp Benefit Bazaar held June 19-20 at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon. Proceeds from the auction are split between Sunshine and MCC. Additional information can be obtained by calling Sunshine at 419-794-1393 or online at www.blackswampbenefit.org.
