Third Empty Bowls Event April 19 At Toledo Botanical Garden
Food, art and a worthy cause – all in one event? This is the promise of the third annual Empty Bowls event – the art of soup – April 19 from noon to 3 p.m. Admission for the event is $5.00.
The conference center of the Toledo Botanical Garden is the setting for the event, which will benefit the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. The Empty Bowls Project is an international fundraising effort that relies on the sponsorship of small programs to raise donations for area food pantries and other food service providers. The program was developed in 1990 and has since raised several million dollars from around the world in the fight against hunger.
The Empty Bowls event consists of a lunch of soup, bread and beverages, and an art exhibit of ceramic and glass bowls, all symbolizing the empty bowls in the world and the importance of continuing efforts to alleviate hunger. All the food and art are supplied by local artists, restaurants and businesses.

Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank: Supplies food and groceries to more than 330 member agencies in Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Williams and Wood counties in Northwest Ohio. Member agencies range from emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, rehabilitation centers and special programs for the elderly and children, to group homes, foster care associations, holiday food basket programs and non-profit day care centers. The Food Bank is affiliated with Feed America, the nation’s largest charitable hunger-relief organization.
