3rd Annual Run from the Sun Event on July 25th & 26th
Toledo, Ohio…. The 3rd Annual “Run from the Sun” Event will be held on two days this year, Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, 2009.
The first day will be Saturday, July 25, at The Dermatology Associates at 12780 Roachton Rd, in Perrysburg Ohio. A “Preserve & Protect” FREE screening will be held from 9:00am to 12:00 Noon. Registration is required; please call and reserve a spot for this event at 419-872-0777.
On July 26, a 5k run or walkathon to be held at Ottawa Park, 2625 Kenwood Boulevard, Toledo, Ohio. Registration starts at 8:00am, with the walk/run beginning at 9:00am.
All of the proceeds from this event will go to The Victory Center which helps in early detection education, patient outreach and advocacy services to families who are affected by melanoma. The philosophy of The Victory Center is that no one should have to face cancer alone and that no one should be turned away due to inability to pay. Each program at The Victory Center is based on participant’s diverse needs and the needs of their families.
Melanoma takes the life of one person every hour and it is the most common cancer among women, ages 20-29, claiming more than 8,000 lives a year just in the US. Melanoma, when caught early, is more than 90% curable. Once melanoma has spread to other parts of the body beyond the skin, it becomes more difficult to treat. The “Run from the Sun” event has been started in the Toledo area by Nancy DiSalle and Julie Lee who have felt the consequence of melanoma.
This 5k run or walk does have the option of completing a mile. Registration is $20.00 and can be found online at www.thevictorycenter.org , or at www.active.com, with walk up registration on Sunday. Along with the walk, there will be massages, raffles, food and drinks. There will be children’s activities and it is a dog friendly event.
