Lourdes Helps Families Send Videos to Overseas Military
Lourdes College is pleased to announce that during the 2009 Fulton County Fair, family and friends of overseas Military will have the opportunity to record and send a personal video message to their loved one.
Those wishing to create videos for their loved ones currently serving overseas should visit the Lourdes College table at the Fulton County Fair on Sunday, September 6 or Monday, September 7, between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m. Videos will be professionally edited and mailed to the overseas service man or woman for which it was created. The inspiration and resources for this initiative come from John Schupp, founder of the SERV (Supportive Education for the Returning Veteran) program at Cleveland State University.
“John recently spoke at Lourdes College about SERV and the various ways in which he has reached out to our service men and women,” notes Dr. Kimberly Grieve, Dean of Students. “Through his guidance as well as support from our Administration, Lourdes is able to address the needs of active Military as well as Veterans returning to college through new initiatives such as the Fulton County Fair video project.”
According to the Department of Veteran Affairs, only 8 percent of Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan are taking advantage of the $36,000 granted to them for college by the GI bill. In an effort to assist Veterans wishing to return to college and earn a degree, Lourdes has developed a Veterans Center and Lounge, and will launch a Learning Community for Veterans spring semester.
