Toledo Mud Hens Launch Grant Program To Aid Local Community
(TOLEDO, OH) – The Toledo Mud Hens are pleased to announce the launch of a grant distribution program for local sports and recreation programs. The Helping Hens Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation requests letters of inquiry from organizations providing sports and recreation services to youth enrolled in kindergarten through the 12th grade.
In addition to operating expenses, the Helping Hens Fund will consider requests to provide need-based scholarships for youth to participate in a sports or recreation program. Funds awarded for scholarships may be used to cover participation fees, equipment and/or uniform costs. Funds are limited and grants will be awarded on a competitive basis.
According to Cheri Pastula, Community Relations Manager for the Mud Hens, “The Mud Hens feel it’s important to give back to the community, especially one that has been so supportive of us. Many times the cost for fees or equipment is a barrier to kids playing sports. Our goal is to provide kids with the chance to get involved and be part of a sports team, whether it’s baseball, soccer or football.”
**Interested organizations are required to submit a letter of inquiry by October 2, 2009. The letter must be received in the Toledo Community Foundation office by 5:00 pm (or postmarked) by the due date. After initial review, applicant organizations will be notified, in writing, of the status of their funding request. Selected applications will be asked to submit a full proposal for funding consideration. Proposals will only be considered from non-profit, charitable organizations which have been designated as having tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code or can receive Foundation funding.
