Bowling Green, OH — The Tower Brass Quintet, a brass group which has gained national status and is quite familiar to Toledo area audiences, will be joined by Toledo Jazz Orchestra pianist Eric Dickey for a unique concert offering on Sunday, October 11, at Zoar Lutheran Church located at 314 East Indiana, in Perrysburg. There will be a “coffeehouse” gathering at 6:00pm prior to the concert, with the music beginning at 6:15pm. The coffeehouse and concert are free and open to the public. For additional details, call Zoar Lutheran at 419-874-4346.

The collaboration of Dickey and the Tower Brass comes five years and one day after they first combined their talents for a coffeehouse concert at Zoar on October 10, 2004. This performance will feature new arrangements by Toledo-area trumpeter and arranger Brad Sharp, who was commissioned by the Tower Brass to draw on the songbook of pop icon Stevie Wonder. Sharp responded with fresh versions of Wonder tunes For Once in My Life, Superstition, I Wish, Overjoyed and You Are the Sunshine of my Life, creatively arranged for brass quintet and piano.

In addition to the Stevie Wonder songs, the Tower Brass will play Andre Previn’s Four Outings along with jazz arrangements of works by Tommy Dorsey, George Gershwin, Lester Young and Burton Lane.

Pianist Eric Dickey is a member of the Toledo Jazz Orchestra and the Music Director and Organist for Zoar Lutheran. He has performed throughout Europe and Japan, and he can be seen and heard regularly with the Toledo area's premiere jazz artists. Also a fine composer, Dickey has written several works, including a Jazz Mass that has been performed several times in Toledo.

Although The Tower Brass Quintet has built a national reputation, the ensemble’s roots are local, having had its beginnings as a graduate brass group at Bowling Green State University in 1979. After graduating from BGSU and launching their career as a professional chamber music ensemble, the Tower Brass scored international success with a prize-winning performance at the International Brass Chamber Music Competition in Barcs, Hungary, in 1986. They have since gone on to give more than 500 performances in twenty-five states and have collaborated with several of the world's other premiere brass ensembles, including the London, Budapest, Annapolis and American Brass Quintets. Tower Brass concerts and recordings have been heard on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, the American Composer's Alliance Series, Voice of America, Hungarian State Radio and WNCN in New York. The Tower Brass Quintet has released eight recordings. Members of the ensemble are Brian Bushong and Larry Herman, trumpets; Bernice Schwartz, horn; Dan Saygers, trombone; and David Saygers, tuba.
