Toledo Symphony Opens its 66th Season with Mahler’s Third
Toledo, OH – The Toledo Symphony open its 66th season Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26 with Gustav Mahler’s monumental Third Symphony at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle.
Principal conductor Stefan Sanderling leads the TSO with the Bowling Green State University Women’s Chorus and the Junior Choral Society of Northwest Ohio. Suzanna Guzmán will be the featured mezzo-soprano—a return engagement.
Mahler’s Third Symphony has been likened to transforming all of nature into music. Each movement addresses elements of creation, such as flowers, animals, humanity and the spiritual realm.
The TSO musicians are excited to present this dramatic work of art to the Toledo and northwest Ohio community. “Experiencing this symphony, either as a player or a listener, is like climbing a mountain – constantly breathtaking, your attention gets caught at times by the smallest of flowers or the most distant of birds, and then at times you get blown away by the sheer immensity of scale,” says Merwin Siu, TSO violinist, “It is a truly unforgettable journey.”
Tickets are on sale now. Call the box office at 419-246-8000 Monday-Friday from 9a-5p, or order on line www.toledosymphony.com.
