Historical Authors Series at Maumee Branch Library

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is pleased to announce its Historical Authors Series at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, Tuesday, October 20 and Wednesday, November 4, presented by the Maumee Branch Library, the Maumee Branch Friends of the Library, Metroparks Toledo Area, and the Fallen Timbers Preservation Commission.

The Toledo War of 1835 – October 13, 7 p.m. Was Toledo really a part of Michigan? Join author Don Faber as he tells the story of how Toledo was stolen from Michigan and given to Ohio in return for the Upper Peninsula. Authors sales and signing to follow the program. Program sponsored by the Maumee Friends of the Library. An interpretive walk sponsored by the Metroparks Toledo Area starting at 4:45 p.m. will precede the program. The walk will start at Fort Miami, stop at the Wolcott House, and end with a short talk about Dudley’s massacre at the Maumee Branch. The Battle of the River Raisin and Winchester’s campaign on the Maumee – October 20, 7 p.m. Join author Ralph Naveaux as he discusses The Battle of the River Raisin, one of the bloodiest engagements in the War of 1812, and Brigadier General James Winchester’s campaign up the Maumee River. Book sales and signing to follow the program. Sponsored by the Maumee Friends of the Library.

The Battle of the Wabash – November 4, 7 p.m. Also known as St. Clair’s defeat, The Battle of the Wabash in 1791 pitted the Western Confederation of Indians against the United States in the greatest loss of American Forces against the Native Americans in the history of the United States Army. Join author Nancy Knapke as she details the fascinating facts of this battle which eventually led to the Battle of Fallen Timbers. Author sales and signing to follow the program. This program is sponsored by the Fallen Timbers Preservation Commission in cooperation with the Library. The lecture will be held at the Church on the Wolcott Grounds at 1031 River Road.
