Sunshine to Recognize National Disability Employement Month
Deb Rasmusson, Director of Vocational Services at Sunshine of Northwest Ohio, announced that Sunshine in Maumee will be recognizing National Disability Employee Awareness Month throughout October. The U.S. Labor Dept. has proclaimed "Expectation + Opportunity = Full Participation" as the theme for the program, which aims to urge employers to consider the talents of all workers, including those with disabilities.
Sunshine was founded in 1950 and has been the region's leader in providing a wide range of comprehensive residential, adult day care and vocational services to people with developmental disabilities. Sunshine's vocational center is unique in northwest Ohio and offers a range of programming tailored to the special needs of its clients.
In addition, Georgette's Fair Trade Grounds & Gifts at 311 Conant Street in uptown Maumee is owned and operated by Sunshine of Northwest Ohio and provides job opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. Coincidentally, Georgette's will be celebrating its 4th Anniversary on Friday, October 23 with musical entertainment that evening and a two-day anniversary sale on October 23 & 24.
Sunshine will also be participating in the 5th Annual Disability Awareness Day Expo in the new Lucas County Arena in downtown Toledo on Wednesday October 14. The Expo is designed to provide vital information to people with disabilities and the employers who hire and employ them in northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan.
