How Buying Local Food Helps Support the Local Economy

CIFT is sponsoring a workshop on how buying local helps support the local economy. It will be Wednesday November 18th, 2009 at the Ward Pavilion at 5100 Central Avenue in Toledo. This all day event starts with registration at 9:30am. The cost is $20 or $15 and two canned goods for the food bank. The program starts at 10:00am with the following topics: buying locally through Community Supported Agriculture, how schools and other food venues can buy locally, how the Northwest Ohio Cooperative Kitchen works. There will be a panel discussion of growers and producers that sell at the farm and at markets and the challenges they meet. A lunch using local products will be served. The guest speaker is Mr. Parker Bosley. Mr. Bosley is a retired chef and restaurant owner who is passionate about using local products to keep the farmer and the community economically sound in these trying times.
