The Spirit of Christmas Brassed offers a full spectrum of holiday music, including classical and sacred music, brass ensemble arrangements of well-known traditional Christmas carols, and jazz renditions of popular tunes of the season. This year’s program will offer the premier performance of arrangements by Toledo trumpeter and arranger Brad Sharp, including I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm, A Child is Born, and It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Sharp and the Tower Brass are fresh off of their successful collaboration on arrangements of several Stevie Wonder tunes, which were premiered in November at Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg.
In addition, the Tower Brass will be joined by the Trinity United Methodist and Saint Aloysious Church Choirs for Silent Night and Angels We Have Heard on High.
The Tower Brass Quintet has begun celebrating their 30th Season. Although they have built a national reputation, the ensemble’s roots are local, having had its beginnings as a graduate brass group at Bowling Green State University in 1979. After graduating from BGSU and launching their career as a professional chamber music ensemble, the Tower Brass scored international success with a prize-winning performance at the International Brass Chamber Music Competition in Barcs, Hungary, in 1986. They have since gone on to give more than 500 performances in twenty-five states and have collaborated with several of the world's other premiere brass ensembles, including the London, Budapest, Annapolis and American Brass Quintets. Tower Brass concerts and recordings have been heard on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, the American Composer's Alliance Series, Voice of America, Hungarian State Radio and WNCN in New York. In October, they preformed live on WGTE’s Live from FM91! Program. The Tower Brass Quintet has released eight recordings, including the holiday CD’s Snowed in …Again, released last year, and the very popular Emma’s Christmas.
