Harriet Tubman brings the Underground Railroad to Lourdes College in Freedom Train
On Tuesday, January 26, Theater Vision resumes its 25th anniversary season with Freedom Train, the thrilling story of Harriet Tubman, the “Moses of her people.” Freedom Train features theatrical scenes including dance, dialogue and music from the 1800’s. This stirring work celebrates the approach of Black History Month by telling a story of self-sacrifice, dedication and survival, laced with warmth and a sense of humor that celebrates the human spirit.
Born and raised as a slave on a Maryland plantation, when Harriet Tubman was 25 she made a perilous escape, leaving behind her family and the only life she had known. Pursued by dogs and relentless slave catchers, she followed an escape route which would soon be known as the Underground Railroad. Traveling through creek beds, swamps, over hills and in the dark of night, Harriet led 19 secret trips guiding more than 300 slaves, including her parents, to freedom.
All Theater Vision performances are open to the public. Freedom Train shows at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person. Call 419-824-3986 or visit www.lourdes.edu/theater for more information.
