TSO's Classics Program Honors Vivaldi's 'The Four Seasons'
The Toledo Symphony will continue its Classics Series with a pair of 8 p.m. concerts Jan. 15 and 16 in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. The program is titled "The Four Seasons" in honor of the beloved Vivaldi suite. Principal violinists Kirk Toth, Naomi Guy, Merwin Siu, and Rita Lammers will take turns as soloists in the four movements, accompanied by keyboard and strings. Also taking center stage for J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 will be trumpeter Thaddeus Archer, oboist Kimberly Bryden Loch, and recorder artist David Dyer. Advancing the program into the 20th century will be eight TSO wind players performing Igor Stravinsky's Octet. Tickets are $20-$50 at 419-246-8000 or toledosymphony.com. A few tickets remain for the third in the Blade Chamber Series concerts at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Toledo Club, where works by Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Franz Strauss will be performed by Sandra Clark, Nancy Lendrim, Siu, Michael Boyd, Damon Coleman, Frances Renzi, Toth, and Martha Reikow.
