Auditions set for The Fantasticks

Auditions will be held at The Village Players, 2740 Upton Avenue at 7:00 pm on Sunday, February 21st and Monday, February 22nd, 2010 with callbacks if needed on Wednesday, February 24th for the musical The Fantasticks. The Fantasticks is the longest running musical in the history of theatre. It is based loosely on “Les Romanesques” by Edmond Rostand concerning two neighboring fathers who put up a wall between their houses to ensure that their children fall in love. After the children do fall in love, they discover their fathers' plot and they each go off and experience things in the world. They return to each other and the love they had, having learned from the world and made an informed decision. Book and lyrics for The Fantasticks are by Tom Jones and music is by Harvey Schmidt. It is produced with special arrangement by Music Theatre International. It will be directed by Paul Palmisano and will run May 7-23, 2010. Needed are: El Gallo the Narrator; rakish and handsome (high Baritone: A flat to high G). The Mute; speechless (non-singing, physical). Matt; 18 years old and innocent (Baritone/Tenor - A to high G). Hucklebee; Matt's father, a meticulous gardener and former Naval officer (Baritone). Luisa; 16 years old, romantic and an idealist (Soprano - B to high B). Bellomy; Luisa’s father, a merchant and picky gardener (Baritone). Mortimer; Henry’s goofy sidekick. Henry; 40-60 years of age and an over-the-top thespian. If possible, please be prepared to sing from the show or bring another song.
