The Toledo Symphony (TSO) is pleased to announce its 67th season. From Jim Brickman to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, from The Music of Led Zeppelin to Handel’sMessiah, the symphony plans to offer a wide variety of concerts. In addition, the TSO will perform in NYC’s prestigious Carnegie Hall in May 2011. Several events are planned to celebrate this achievement with the Toledo community.

TSO to Perform in Carnegie Hall in May 2011

In anticipation of the TSO trip to Carnegie Hall in 2011, the orchestra will celebrate the 2011 New Year in style with a gala celebration. The NYC Kickoff Celebration will feature Toledo’s own Stanley Cowell, a renowned jazz pianist, and Toledo Mayor Mike Bell, narrating Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland. The concert will feature works premiered at Carnegie Hall (Dvorak’s New World Symphony, Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis) as well as works by NYC composers (Gershwin, Bernstein, Copland). Seats are available to TSO subscribers for only $10 now through April 25 and will be available to everyone when single tickets go on sale in late summer.

Additionally, the TSO will perform the New York program on its Classics series finale concert in April before embarking on the trip east. The program for the event will be announced nationally in early 2011. The TSO plans to document the trip with video-blogging and other social media, and travel packages will be available to people who are interested in traveling to the NYC performance. Family Series Returns – Including Popular Spooktacular

The Family Series makes its return to the TSO in the 2010-2011 season including favorites such as the Halloween Spooktacular. The TSO will partner with a different family-friendly nonprofit for each concert, including The Toledo Museum of Art (Halloween Spooktacular), Toledo-Lucas County Library (Lemony Snicket’s The Composer is Dead), Imagination Station (Science of Sound), and the Toledo Metroparks (Spring for Music!). Pre-concert “scavenger hunts” will encourage families to explore the cultural riches of the region. All concerts are at 3 PM on Sunday in the Peristyle. The TSO is offering a free child subscription with every paid adult subscription.

“This is a huge year for us and the Toledo community,” says TSO Marketing Director Ashley Mirakian, “We have a great chance to show the world stage what a gem of a symphony we have in Toledo. Plus, we plan on celebrating throughout the season by performing such great works as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Saint-Saen’s Organ Symphony. We will continue our wonderful collaborations with regional college choruses and acclaimed guest artists and start new collaborations for our Family Series.”

“And, we plan on rocking out to The Music of Led Zeppelin in March,” she adds. “There’s a lot of range this year, and we’re extremely excited. It all leads up to the finale performance in the Peristyle and then Carnegie Hall. The energy is palpable.”

Ticket packages are available by calling the symphony at 419-246-8000 or visiting www.ToledoSymphony.com. A full listing of concerts is available at www.ToledoSymphony.com.
