Established at the beginning of 2010, the Toledo ChinaCenter (TCC, formerly known as ChinaCenter Toledo) positions the Toledo community to take advantage of the ever-increasing trade opportunities between the U.S. and China. TCC will unite the local Chinese community, calling upon its talents, resources, and connections to expand business, trade, and educational and cultural exchange between the US and China (including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore). TCC also aims to boost the Toledo economy by attracting Chinese investment.
“Think Globally, Act Locally” is TCC president, Ms. Hewen Slak’s mission statement and guiding principle. As former board chairmen of the Chinese Association of Greater Toledo (CAGT), Ms. Slak established TCC for the aforementioned purpose of facilitating trade, education, and cultural exchanges between Toledo and China.
The Toledo ChinaCenter specializes in consulting, sourcing, and administrative services, and also offers the following programs in the Metro Toledo Area:
1. International Student Services
A)International Student Recruiting
Toledo ChinaCenter partners with the recruiting efforts of regional high schools and universities to attract international students from all of Asia. International student recruiting serves a dual purpose: it gives Asian students the opportunity to experience the Western culture and education style, exposing their young minds to a broader worldview and enriching their lives. It also introduces the possibility of bringing Chinese wealth into the local economy.
B) International Student Hospitality
To ease the difficulty associated with international relocation, TCC assists Asian students upon arrival in Toledo. This complete hospitality service eases the young student’s transition into a foreign culture by providing incoming foreign students with airport pickup upon arrival, off-campus housing, and city orientation, and offers assistance with the opening of a bank account and cell phone services.
3. Services for International Professionals
A) International Relocation Services
To assure a smooth transition for corporate expatriates, TCC helps establish necessary arrangements for living in Toledo. This includes gaining orientation with the City of Toledo, finding apartments, schools, and doctors, and assistance with acquiring social security card(s), driver’s license(s), and opening a bank account.
B) Trade Show Representation
To promote branding of local businesses and services, TCC offers assistance with representing services and products in China trade shows and conferences.
3. International Assistance for American Businesses
A) Corporate Training
Provides training on Chinese culture, language, and business practices to assist communication and business between American and Chinese professionals.
B) Administrative Services
Offering secretarial and office assistance, translation and interpretation, and help with travel arrangements.
C) Consulting
TCC offers opportunities to consult with Western-trained Chinese professionals. These are experts in their field who possess cross-cultural experience and a rich understanding of historical and present-day China.

4. Chinese Learning for American Students
The Chinese Immersion Program for kindergarten-12th grade students offers exciting cultural and language education that broadens students’ worldview and prepares young people to be competitive in a global market.
