Cla-Zel Theatre Brings Jazz Back to NW Ohio

The Cla-Zel Theatre is proud to announce Friday Night Jazz on the last Friday of the month. The centerpiece of the Friday Night Jazz will be the best local professional jazz musicians as well as special featured performers.

Regular performers:
Damen Cook (drums and vocals): Son a legendary jazz guitarists Leon Cook has had a successful carrier as both a stage and studio musician. He has traveled the country with such legendary artist as Jimmy McGri, Hank Marr, Jon Hendricks, Martha Reevs and The Vandellas, The
Spinners and many more. He has earned a reputation as an outstanding drummer, vocalist and band leader.

Gene Parker (piano, brass, vocals, ute and more): A virtuoso of 8 instruments, Gene has taught Jazz and music at BGSU and UT and has lead the Toledo Jazz Society. He has also performed with the greatest of musical royalty Tony Bennett, Vic Damone, Billy Eckstein, Nancy Wilson,
Diane Carroll, Gladys Knight, Lou Rawls, Sammy Davis Jr., Wayne Newton, Buddy Greco, J.C. Heard, Mel Torme, Steve Allen, The Four Freshman, The Spinners, The Four Tops, Louis Bellson, Zoot Sims, Bill Cosby, Ira Sullivan, Jimmy Whitherspoon, Jay McShann, Brad Goode, Curtis Fuller and Dizzy Gillespie

Jeff Halsey (bass): Professor and director of Jazz Studies at BGSU; teaches jazz history and improvisation, as well as applied jazz bass studies; has toured Europe and the United States performing with such artists as Tommy Flanagan, Jimmie Forrest, Clark Terry, Jay McShann, J.C. Heard, Dizzy Gillespie, Arturo Sandoval and Stanley Cowell; has recordings on the Azica, Cadence, Cimp, Hiroko, Steeplechase and Timeless labels with artists such as Jack Schantz, Chip Stephens, Ernie Krivda, J.C. Heard, Stanley Cowell and the Cadence Jazz All Stars.

Featured Artist
Mike Cady, - March 26th:
Born into a very talented family of entertainers from Detroit, MI, Mike honed his singing skills at a very early age with the help of his mother, the late Susie Garrett who played nurse Betty Johnson on the NBC sitcom "Punky Brewster" which ran from Sept. 1984 to Sept. 1986. Mike was very instrumental in the early years of what later became known as "Motown."
On any given day, you might see Mr. Cady singing with Smokey Robinson, "The Funk Brothers" or, Marvin Gaye to name a few. Celebrities made regular visits to the Cady household. Nat King Cole or Lou Rawls might be seated at the kitchen table having dinner with the family.

Ki Allan, - April 30th:
An encounter with singer Ki Allen is nothing less than extraordinary! She has the uncanny ability to charm a young audience and at the same time surprise aficionados. Whether a jazz or blues enthusiast, Allen will always show you something new about the music you love. Allen
constantly challenges herself. Her repertoire is ever expanding and her phrasing ever illuminating. Through her performances in concerts, television, radio, and night clubs, Allen has developed a broad array of devoted fans. She has performed with: Eddy Baccus JR. and Marcus Belgrave amongst other jazz greats
