The Toledo Symphony to play Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue
The Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue on Saturday, March 20 at 8 PM in the Peristyle.
Guest conductor Julian Wachner joins pianist Kirill Gerstein and the TSO for this special event concert. Gerstein returns to Toledo to play Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. The TSO is also premiering Michael Torke's Ecstatic Orange. This is one of his most widely-performed works, composed while he was a student at Yale in 1985. Torke is hailed as a "vitally inventive composer" (Financial Times of London).
Kirill Gerstein recently won the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award! Read more here from the New York Times: Young Pianist Thrust Into Elite Group.
Mr. Gerstein's performance is made possible by the Norman C. Nitschke Foundation.
