National Train Day in Toledo – May 1, 2010
Thousands Expected to Visit Toledo Train Station for National Train Day 2010!
Toledo's annual celebration of trains and train travel is Saturday, May 1, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic Amtrak station (415 Emerald St.) and upstairs at the restored Grand Lobby of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza. All events are free and parking is free.
Train Day events will include:
• Tours of an Amtrak passenger train
• Tours of the train station and free travel advice
• Drawing for train travel
• Huge operating model train layouts
• Music, art, food, children’s activities
New for Train Day 2010:
• Norfolk Southern is bringing in its locomotive simulator, used for training and certification of railroad engineers
• Middle school students from First Lego League teams will demonstrate their transportation-themed robots
• New food vendors
Train Day opens at 9 a.m. with public comments from elected officials and transportation professionals. Speakers will include U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur, Director of the Ohio Department of Transportation Jolene Molitoris, and Toledo Mayor Michael Bell.
