Local Framer Wins International Competition 2010

The Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) held its International Framing Competition during the PPFA 2010 annual conference, February 21-23 in Anaheim, S. Calif.
John Barlowe, The Frame Shop Art Gallery & Gifts, Holland, Ohio, won a Judges Award sponsored by SoftTouch Solutions for Innovative Moulding and Frame Creations.
Judges' Awards are only given to those entries exhibiting framing design excellence, innovation, or superior technical skill in a specific area which deserve to be honored outside normal competition scoring.
Mr. Barlowe’s piece had first qualified for entry into the international competition by earlier taking second place in the NW Ohio PPFA Chapter Competition. Each entrant framed an image by artist: Rod Morris entitled “Hot Rod Guitar”
The Judges Award for Innovative Moulding and Frame Creation was especially fitting as the frame on this competition piece was handcrafted by Mr. Barlowe to resemble the neck of a base guitar. A unique feature of the frame was the inlaid fret markers made from tagua nut.
Although this is the first International Framing Competition for Mr. Barlowe, it is not the first of his many framing awards. He has placed first, second and third several times in PPFA Chapter Events, as well as securing wins at other regional events.
