"Dead" Students Roaming Halls of Clay High School
(Oregon, OH) The Oregon Community & Family Coalition (OCFC) Youth Board, as well as Clay High School students, will be participating in “Dead for a Day” on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Clay High School. The all-day event is designed to represent the potentially fatal outcome of teen substance and drug abuse.
Sixty Clay High School students will be declared “dead for a day” by an Oregon Police Officer during the first three periods of the day. The “dead” students will wear a t-shirt and tombstone with their death story, as well as remain silent for the rest of the day. They will be secluded to the “cemetery” to eat lunch with the other “dead” students. Students will attend all classes, but will not speak to other students, faculty or staff, and are not allowed to make facial expressions, gestures, or interact with others. We are hopeful that with the success of this event, the students will think twice about taking part in illegal activities and making negative choices.
The OCFC Youth Board is confident that this event will make quite an impact among their peers as it takes place the day before prom, and just weeks before the graduation season.
The media is invited to attend “Dead for a Day” anytime throughout the normal school day on Friday, April 30, 2010, with the most visuals coming between 8:00am and 12:00pm. Representatives from OCFC and the youth board will be made available for interviews and to explain the purpose of “Dead for a Day”.
