Trained financial educators and local professionals want to show you how to save more of your hard-earned cash. Soon you will get the chance to learn these techniques by attending a free Smart Money Choices conference in Toledo on May 21.

Smart Money Choices is a valuable, free financial-planning conference for all Ohioans presented by Ohio Treasurer Kevin L. Boyce.

“The purpose of this conference is to provide the necessary information so Ohioans can make smart financial decisions,” said Treasurer Boyce. “In light of the current economic climate, the Smart Money Choices conference is a must for anyone seeking expert financial advice.”

The Ramada Hotel at 3536 Secor Road in Toledo will host the conference on May 21. The conference is supported by a variety of statewide and regional partners.

Each event includes morning (8 a.m.-11:45 a.m.) and afternoon (1 p.m.-4:45 p.m.) sessions that cover a variety of topics. You may choose from such courses as: Budgeting, Credit & Debt Management, Consumer Fraud, Estate Planning, Insurance, Investments, Kids & Money, Programs to Help Ohioans, Retirement Planning and Social Security. Sessions are taught by financial planning experts and the event includes panel discussions.

“The difficult economy is forcing many people to search for second jobs and to find other means to pay their monthly bills,” said Treasurer Boyce. “But with more information and knowledge from the Smart Money Choices conference, people can make better financial decisions. Those decisions will make their community and our state stronger and more stable.”

Hundreds of Ohioans participated in the statewide Smart Money Choices conferences in 2009. Participants said they found the programs highly informative and many reported that they planned to make changes to their personal financial management approach.

The conferences are part of the Treasury’s commitment to provide Ohioans with the knowledge they need to make more informed personal finance decisions. The tour will feature a financial literacy conference in nine Ohio cities throughout the summer.
