Wearable Art put on my PRIZM
Join PRIZM Creative Community on Tuesday June 29 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm for a workshop entitled “Wearable Art” as Debra Buchanan shares a fun day focusing on one of the latest creative crazes, collage and embellishment! Fabric design and fiber art has been used for centuries to adorn the wearer, capture memories, share a story, and make a statement. Here is your chance to make and flaunt your creativity!
The workshop will be held in the Perrysburg High School Art Room, 13385 Roachton Rd. (Corner of Roachton and Ft. Meigs Road) Perrysburg. Fees are $20.00 for PRIZM members and $25.00 for guests (lunch or brown bag on your own). To register please call Ramona Mercer at 419-874-4212.
Participants should bring a plain clothing item, such as a jean jacket, shirt, jeans, tote or reusable shopping bag to embellish. It is suggested that velvet and corduroy items be avoided as they are difficult to adhere to, but these fabrics may be used for trim and embellishments. Supplied will be many fabric samples for collage and appliqués techniques as well as fabric glue, beads, sequins, embroidery thread, lace and more! Participants are also welcome to bring any special objects or fabrics they especially love and would like to incorporate into their design.
Students can also elect to create a two dimensional work of art using collage techniques with fabrics, interesting papers, beads and fixings. Those who plan to concentrate on a two dimensional piece suitable for framing, are welcome to use all the supplied materials for embellishment but should bring their own substrate material to adhere to such as heavy watercolor paper, mat board, etc.
Aside from the collage and embellishment class, participants may ask questions and receive advice on how to design and display keepsake items suitable for shadowbox framing. For example baby’s first dress is mounted and framed with other childhood memorabilia or son’s trophy shirt is decorated with event awards for a lasting display.
